Two men from Indiana now face murder charges in connection with a recent shooting that resulted in the tragic death of a 12-year-old boy and the injury of a 14-year-old in South Bend, as announced by authorities.
On November 9, Nagomba White, Jr., 21, was apprehended in Indianapolis. He faces charges including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and attempted battery with a deadly weapon. Currently held at St. Joseph County Jail, White is set to appear in court on November 29.
Amarion Cutler, 18, faces charges of aiding, inducing, or causing murder, conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of attempted murder, attempted battery with a deadly weapon, and battery with a deadly weapon. Cutler remains at large and is considered "armed and dangerous." Authorities urge anyone encountering him to call 911 immediately.
The victim, identified as 12-year-old Josiah Small, was found with gunshot wounds on October 27, following a reported shooting in South Bend. Tragically, Josiah succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while a 14-year-old, whose identity remains undisclosed, was wounded but is expected to recover.
By November 6, the suspects were identified and charged, with warrants sealed for law enforcement's apprehension efforts.
During a press conference, St. Joseph County Prosecutor Ken Cotter revealed that a group of four children, including the victims, encountered White and Cutler while walking along a sidewalk. A brief confrontation ensued, leading to shots fired by the suspects as the boys walked away. Surveillance footage aided in the identification of White and Cutler.
Josiah, remembered for his love of anime, wrestling, and time with his baby sister, was tragically killed just a week after celebrating his 12th birthday. A GoFundMe campaign was initiated by his family to cover funeral expenses, describing Josiah as a respectful 6th-grade student at Dickerson Middle School who played football.
Josiah is survived by his parents, sister, four brothers, and other family members. Authorities ask for information on Cutler's whereabouts, urging individuals to contact Michiana Crime Stoppers anonymously at 574-288-STOP.
