Heartbreaking Search for Missing Woman on Guatemala Yoga Retreat

The family of a 29-year-old woman from Southern California, who vanished during a yoga retreat in Guatemala, described their harrowing experience as a "living hell" and lamented the challenges they face due to uncooperative witnesses.

Nancy Ng, hailing from Monterey Park, embarked on her serene getaway to Lake Atitlán on October 14, but her family received distressing news from the retreat's organizer a few days later, revealing that no one had seen her since October 19.

Nicky Ng, Nancy's sister, shared the family's agonizing journey, saying, "The last two weeks have been a living hell because when we first got the news that she was missing, we just had so many questions. What happened? Where is she now? Is there a chance she’s alive? We didn’t know anything."

Nancy, a former student at Cal State LA and an employee of the Alhambra School District, had previously enjoyed the same retreat the year before and held a deep affection for it. The picturesque Lake Atitlán, nestled within a volcanic crater, is a renowned tourist destination.

Nicky reminisced, "She was saying it’s so beautiful. Last year, she woke up every morning just to spend some time there by herself without the group, and this year was going to be more exciting because they had planned activities on the lake."

Since Nancy's disappearance, her family has taken extensive measures, reaching out to the FBI and the State Department. While the Guatemalan government leads the investigation, the FBI is offering support, and the family has enlisted the services of private search and rescue teams.

These teams, which include volunteer organizations, have meticulously scoured over 95% of the lake area utilizing aircraft, divers, and drones. However, the family has encountered obstacles due to insufficient information about the circumstances and location of Nancy's disappearance. Key witnesses, some of whom have returned to the United States, have failed to come forward and provide witness reports, hindering the search efforts.

Chris Sharpe, co-owner of Black Wolf Helicopters, contributing to the search operations, lamented the lack of cooperation from individuals who may have been with Nancy on the day she vanished.

On the Helpusfindnancy Instagram page, Nicky posted a poignant photo from October 12, depicting their family celebrating Nancy's birthday dinner. In the caption, Nicky expressed their heartfelt longing for Nancy, emphasizing the ordinariness of the moment, unaware of the tragic events that would transpire a week later.
