Last Perpetrator Found Guilty in Deadly Assault Using Bolt Cutters on Housemate, Whose Body Was Bound With Duct Tape and Left for Dead
Georgia jurors rendered a guilty verdict for the final defendant, Daniel Gillstrap, in the case of the lethal ambush of former housemate Stiles Stilley during a robbery attempt.
Alongside co-conspirator Marshall Fleming, Gillstrap was involved in the fatal beating of Stilley on September 16, 2022, leading to his conviction on charges of malice murder.
Earlier, Fleming, 24, had been found guilty on September 1 and was subsequently sentenced to life without parole and life with parole consecutively. In their dealings with Stilley, the defendants initially offered to assist with his home repairs.
However, when the electric company disconnected the power due to non-payment, they concocted a plan to steal Stilley's car in desperation for funds.
During the heinous attack, the victim was bound with duct tape after being severely beaten, and his head was covered, leaving only his nostrils exposed.
The perpetrators then barricaded him in the bathroom before fleeing the scene, with Gillstrap taking the victim's car and making his escape. Two days later, Stilley's family discovered his lifeless body in the bathroom, still bound in duct tape.
Following Fleming's trial, the getaway driver, Allen, 23, pleaded guilty and agreed to testify against Gillstrap. In return, she received a 12-year prison sentence and three years of probation for her involvement in the crime.
District Attorney Dalia Racine condemned the brutal attack, emphasizing the lack of remorse shown by the defendants and reaffirming the commitment of the authorities to ensure the safety of the community.
