Los Angeles Man, Russell Robinson Arrested After Remains of Missing Person, Carlos DeLeon Was Found in His Backyard

A California man was arrested last week after police allegedly found on his property the remains of a man who had been missing since June, according to reports.

Los Angeles Police Department officers arrested Russell Robinson, 48, in the city's North Hills neighborhood after they allegedly discovered the remains of Carlos DeLeon in his backyard, the LAPD said in a statement last week.

DeLeon, a 35-year-old man from Guatemala, was last heard from in mid-June, according to the statement. In November, the LAPD's homicide unit began work on the case and received a tip that DeLeon was buried at an address that was eventually determined to be Robinson's.

Police were tipped off by a citizen and carried out a search on Nov. 21 and found a "structure at the rear of the property," the statement said.

"The concrete foundation under the structure was also removed. A careful excavation commenced, and the remains of DeLeon were located," it read.

"This investigation started as a missing persons investigation in June of this year," LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton said, according to CBS Los Angeles. "The missing persons unit has been working the case since that time."

Robinson has been booked under murder charges and is being held without bail, according to the LAPD statement.

Hamilton told KTLA that police sought the assistance of the Los Angeles Fire Department knowing the case would not be an ordinary one, and the fire department helped with the excavation.

Robinson was scheduled to appear in court on Monday. It wasn't immediately clear if he had retained an attorney or entered a plea.
