Man, Loay Alnaji Arrested for Death of Protester, Paul Kessler During Israel-Hamas Conflict Protest in California


A 50-year-old man, Loay Alnaji, has been arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter for his alleged role in the death of 69-year-old Paul Kessler during a protest over the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. The incident occurred in Thousand Oaks, California, on November 5th.

Kessler, a pro-Israeli protester, was involved in a physical altercation with counter-protesters. During the altercation, Kessler fell backwards and struck his head on the ground. He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead the next day.

Alnaji was arrested on Thursday in the city of Moorpark and is being held at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility on $1 million bail. It is unclear if he has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on his behalf.

The Ventura County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the incident and has not ruled out the possibility of a hate crime. They are also asking anyone who may have information about the case to come forward and contact Detective Stump at (805) 384-4745.

The Ventura County Sheriff's Office is also encouraging those who may have captured video footage while driving in the area of Westlake Boulevard and Thousand Oaks Boulevard between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on November 5th to contact them.
