Mother, Makaylia Shaylynn Jolley Pleads Guilty to Shocking Crime: Slamming Infant Daughter on Concrete

In a distressing case, a mother has admitted her guilt in the horrifying act of repeatedly slamming her infant daughter onto concrete. In exchange for her confession, 21-year-old Makaylia Shaylynn Jolley received a life sentence without the possibility of parole in Rankin County, Mississippi, according to local reports like WAPT.

As previously reported by Law&Crime, witnesses in the city of Pearl observed the defendant engaging in the shocking and forceful act of throwing her eight-week-old daughter, Khalysie Lashay Jolley, onto the pavement. Multiple 911 calls were made to alert the authorities.

Law enforcement officers swiftly arrived at the scene, where they found another woman holding the severely injured infant. First responders administered immediate first aid and rushed Khalysie to the Children's Hospital of Mississippi in Jackson. Initially in critical condition, the baby, tragically, could not survive her injuries.

Upon police arrival, defendant Jolley attempted to escape into nearby woods but was subsequently apprehended by law enforcement.

A neighbor expressed her shock to WAPT at the time, grappling with the disturbing nature of the murder case.

“I don’t understand,” said the woman, who wished to remain anonymous. “Something had to go wrong. Postpartum, or something. Because she really is a very good mother. I don’t understand what happened.”

District Attorney Bubba Bramlett, who serves Madison and Rankin counties, described the crime as "unexplainable and heinous" against an innocent child. He expressed gratitude to the witnesses, EMTs, medical providers at Blair E. Batson and the Mississippi Children's Safe Center, the Pearl Police Department, and the Pearl Fire Department for their dedication to the case.

The individuals involved, he noted, will forever be affected by the harrowing events of May 12, 2022. Bramlett also emphasized that Makaylia Jolley will spend her life in prison for choosing drugs over her children and causing the tragic death of her daughter, Khlaysie.
