Nebraska Teen Faces Murder Charges in Newborn's Disturbing Death

In Nebraska, a 16-year-old is accused of fatally harming her newborn, allegedly slitting the baby's throat and concealing the body in an empty bag of dog food. The unidentified teenage mother faces charges of first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon, as detailed in court records obtained by the Star Herald.

Responding to a call reporting a teen giving birth with the baby not breathing, police visited the girl's Gordon home on Nov. 6.

The teen's father initially claimed the baby was stillborn, but upon entering the home, police discovered the girl's mother holding the baby's body, revealing that her daughter had harmed the infant.

Upon examination, police found the baby's throat cut and multiple stab wounds on the left side of the chest. Emergency medical services took over the child's care. The affidavit indicated that an hour before the incident, the teen had accessed a kitchen drawer containing a boning knife, later discovered missing.

Though the parents didn't witness the knife's removal, it was reported absent after a kitchen search. The teen then claimed she needed to buy sanitary products, leaving the house. Shortly after, the family's dog rushed into the teen's bedroom, revealing blood on the walls.

Upon the teen's return, her parents confronted her, leading to an admission of killing the baby. The husband found the baby disposed of in the girl's closet inside an empty dog food bag.

The 16-year-old faces charges in Sheridan County Court, having been appointed an attorney and is currently held without bond, according to court records.
