Amid the grief of a Renton family following the loss of their patriarch, James Tatum, conflicting narratives have emerged, notably diverging from the recently released video by Renton police, shedding new light on the tragic incident.
The unfortunate event took place in the early hours of Saturday morning at the parking lot of a Chase Bank on Logan Avenue South in Renton. While the family initially asserted that two individuals had shot and killed James Tatum during an attempted car theft, the video released by Renton police depicts a different sequence of events.
The footage reveals Donald Tatum, James's 18-year-old son, engaging in a confrontation with the alleged perpetrators, attempting to retrieve his stolen car keys. Subsequently, a physical altercation ensues between James Tatum and one of the men.
A shot is heard off-camera, prompting the 18-year-old to flee the scene. As per a Renton police spokesperson, Michelle Tatum, James's 23-year-old daughter, denies firing her weapon, stating that she had retrieved the gun after the incident.
The police have confiscated multiple firearms, including those belonging to the involved parties at the scene.
While the investigation continues, the Renton community is left to mourn the loss of James Tatum, a father of eight, whose untimely demise has left a profound impact on his family and the entire community.
