In a recent incident at an assisted living facility in Florida, a nurse allegedly engaged in a physical altercation with a patient, resulting in significant injuries. The accused, identified as Kassandra Aihe, aged 24, was taken into custody and charged with battery on an elderly person, aged at least 65, by the Casselberry Police Department.
The incident occurred in the facility located in Casselberry, Florida, around 10:30 p.m., when the patient was walking down a hallway. Aihe noticed the patient and attempted to assist her in returning to her room, as detailed in an arrest report obtained by FOX 35.
According to the report, the patient exhibited combative behavior, leading to Aihe's efforts to control the situation. Surveillance footage captured Aihe grabbing and pulling the patient's hair in an attempt to manage the situation. Once Aihe gained control, she guided the patient back to her room and pushed her inside.
Inside the room, an alarming situation unfolded as Aihe was heard screaming for approximately five minutes. Another staff member eventually entered the room to provide assistance, discovering the patient with facial bleeding.
In her own incident report, Aihe admitted to hitting the patient's face with an object and subsequently slamming her face against a wall, causing facial injuries and bleeding. The severity of the patient's condition prompted her transfer to the hospital two days later, where doctors diagnosed facial fractures and nose injuries.
The patient's hospitalization initiated an investigation at the care facility. Due to her inability to make decisions on her own behalf, her husband, acting as her power of attorney, expressed his intention to press charges against Aihe.
The arrest report indicated that Aihe exceeded the scope of her duty by physically restraining the patient through hair-pulling and forcefully moving her to her room. Following her arrest, Aihe was taken to the Seminole County Jail but was later released upon posting a $5,000 bond.
