Ohio Teen Accused of Urging Boyfriend to Kill His Mom Within 5 Hours, Allegedly Took Matters into Her Own Hands By Killing Her

Kaitlyn Coones, a 17-year-old from Canton, Ohio, allegedly took the life of Nicole Jones, 53, with a rock, and then fled to Mexico with her 33-year-old boyfriend, according to authorities.

Following her disappearance from a foster home on April 11, Coones moved in with Jonathan Jones, convicted in March due to his relationship with her when she was 15, as reported by ABC 13, News 19, and the Sentinel-Tribune.

Living with Jonathan, Coones reportedly urged him to eliminate his disapproving mother, whom she believed was interfering in their relationship. When Jonathan failed to act within the given timeframe, Coones took matters into her own hands.

Allegedly, Coones bludgeoned and strangled Nicole Jones with a rock in the kitchen when the unsuspecting woman was standing in front of the refrigerator. Prosecutors claim Jonathan assisted in disposing of his mother's body, which was thrown into a dumpster at an apartment complex and eventually taken to a landfill.

The fugitive couple fled to Mexico, where Coones allegedly confessed to the murder during the trip. Authorities were alerted when Coones called a case worker, admitting to a heinous act.

On May 8, the U.S. Marshals Service's Missing Child Unit apprehended Jonathan in Mexico, aided by his failure to disable a GPS tracking device worn since his March conviction. Coones was captured with him.

In March, Jonathan pleaded guilty to charges related to endangering children and attempting to commit pandering obscenity involving a minor. Prosecutors claimed he engaged in inappropriate conduct with Coones at a Super 8 motel, taking explicit photos when she was 15 or 16 and under child services custody.

Jonathan faces additional charges in connection with his mother's murder. Legal representation status for both individuals remains unclear at this time.
