According to a press release from the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office, Barton Seltmann, 84, called 911 on Tuesday, November 28, to report that his wife, Margaret Seltmann, 85, was unresponsive.
Upon arriving at the couple's residence, officers found Barton Seltmann on the back porch with blood on his hands, face, and clothing. Margaret Seltmann was found inside the home, deceased.
Investigators determined that the couple had been arguing about the cost of their cat's veterinary care when Barton Seltmann allegedly struck his wife multiple times in the head while she was lying on the kitchen floor.
The Montgomery County Coroner's Office ruled Margaret Seltmann's death a homicide, caused by blunt force trauma to the head.
Barton Seltmann has been charged with first-degree murder and third-degree murder. He is currently being held without bail at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 5th.
