Repeat Offender Redux: Lakeland Man with Murder Conviction Arrested for Bus Stop Brawl

In Lakeland, a man with a history of second-degree murder convictions, Jarrett Garrett McCabe, found himself back in trouble this week. The Polk County Sheriff's Office reported his arrest for simple battery after an incident on David Street where McCabe allegedly attacked a 16-year-old boy.

McCabe explained to detectives that a neighbor informed him that his son had been jumped by two boys on Monday. However, the investigation revealed that while McCabe's son had been in fights with both boys recently, he wasn't jumped in either incident.

Following the Monday fight, the 47-year-old waited at the bus stop the next day, hoping to witness another altercation involving his son. When the boys disembarked, McCabe confronted them, claiming he slapped one of them. A DoorDash driver who witnessed the incident contradicted this, stating McCabe punched the 16-year-old in the face and twice in the stomach.

The punched boy had previously fought with McCabe's son a few weeks earlier, while the other boy present during the confrontation remained unharmed, according to deputies.

Sheriff Grady Judd, commenting on the incident, said, "It’s understandable that a dad would be upset about his son getting jumped, but waiting at a bus stop to beat up a kid is not the kind of example you want to be setting for your child." Judd noted McCabe's history of anger-management issues based on the recent event and his criminal record.

McCabe's prior convictions include second-degree murder, aggravated assault with a weapon, and shooting/throwing a deadly missile into a building or vehicle, as detailed by the Polk County Sheriff's Office. He has spent nearly seven years in Florida state prison.

Despite the charges, McCabe has been released from Polk County Jail.
