Restaurant Owner, Mohammed Hamdan Arrested for Firing at Teen Who Attempted To Steal a Tip Jar

A restaurant owner, Mohammed Hamdan, 39, faces charges of aggravated assault for shooting a 15-year-old who allegedly attempted to steal a tip jar at his Stowe Township, Penn., restaurant.

According to the Allegheny County Police Department, Hamdan fired multiple shots at the teenager after he grabbed the tip jar and headed for the exit following an order at the counter.

The incident, captured on surveillance footage, unfolded when the teenager placed an order with Hamdan and then snatched the tip jar before leaving. Allegedly, Hamdan fired around three shots at the teenager, prompting authorities to respond to the shooting reported around 10 p.m.

Calls reporting the incident were followed by the teen's mother alerting the police about her son's multiple gunshot wounds.

The teenager, with gunshot injuries to his right forearm and shoulder blade, was admitted to UPMC Children’s Hospital in stable condition. Investigations revealed no evidence suggesting the teenager was armed or posed a threat to Hamdan, as per the police statement.

Charged with aggravated assault and held in Allegheny County Jail, Hamdan allegedly mentioned expecting theft after a prior visit from the teenager and his brother. An ongoing investigation continues into the incident.

Following his arrest, Hamdan was released on non-monetary bail, pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for December 5, reported CBS News. As of now, no attorney for Hamdan has been reached for comment.
