Khazar Momeni, the wife of a plastic surgeon and sister of the man charged with Lee's murder, was involved in a car crash on Monday morning in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco.
Responding officers found probable cause to charge her with driving under the influence, two counts of hit-and-run, failing to provide proof of insurance, and failing to drive within her lane.
Momeni, 38, posted bail earlier this week but has not yet appeared in court.
Her attorneys have not yet responded to requests for comment.
Her brother, Silicon Valley outsourcing entrepreneur Nima Momeni, is currently on trial for Lee's April stabbing. The incident sent shockwaves through the city after surveillance footage showed Lee stumbling down a sidewalk, clutching his wounds and begging passersby for help before collapsing outside a hotel lobby.
According to San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins' office, Nima Momeni lured Lee out of his sister's apartment building, drove him to a secluded parking lot, and allegedly stabbed him multiple times. Lee, a Miami transplant, was visiting San Francisco on a business trip.
Nima Momeni has pleaded not guilty to murder charges.
Investigators believe the murder weapon, a knife covered in both Lee's blood and Nima Momeni's DNA, came from Khazar Momeni's kitchen.
Court documents reveal text messages exchanged between Lee and Khazar Momeni. In one conversation, she thanked Lee for "handling himself with class" after her brother allegedly "came wayyyyyy down hard" on him.
Prosecutors allege that Nima Momeni intentionally drove Lee to a dark and secluded area away from his hotel, suggesting a pre-planned attack. They also point to a text message from Khazar Momeni to Lee, indicating that she was upset with him about something.
A witness told police that Lee was drinking with Khazar Momeni the afternoon before his murder and that the two may have been romantically involved. The witness also stated that Khazar Momeni was grilling Lee about his sister's activities, possibly suspecting drug use or inappropriate behavior.
Lee's autopsy revealed the presence of cocaine, ketamine, alcohol, and the anti-allergy drug levocetirizine in his system at the time of his death. According to the Mayo Clinic, this drug can have adverse interactions with alcohol and ketamine.
The case of Khazar Momeni's DUI arrest and her brother's murder trial is still ongoing, and more details are likely to emerge as the proceedings continue.
