A 42-year-old mom in Nevada and her 43-year-old husband got arrested after their 13-year-old daughter was found in a grocery store parking lot. The girl was super skinny and had visible burns, cuts, and scars on her body. She said she ran away from home because she was tired of getting punished. The mom and stepdad were charged with child abuse.
A witness leaving a bar in Las Vegas saw the girl wandering around the Albertson's grocery store parking lot. The witness noticed the injuries on the girl and called 911. When the police arrived, they saw the burns, cuts, and scars on her as well.
The girl told them she ran away from home because she was always being punished. Her biological dad had passed away, and since then, she had been punished regularly for what she did wrong or just for looking at things. Her mom, Kacey, and stepdad, Edward, would slap her in the face for staring at them. She had been homeschooled since she was eight, so she didn't have any friends, and being at home made her sad.
During an interview with the police, Kacey admitted to hitting the girl when she caught her looking at Edward. She said it bothered her to have another woman looking at her man and made her want to attack.
Kacey also claimed that the girl would listen to her and Edward when they had sex.
When asked why her daughter was so thin, Kacey said she didn't know and that the girl could eat whatever she wanted, but she also mentioned that the girl liked to steal food.
Edward claimed he had never physically disciplined the girl, describing her as defiant and not doing what she was told.
In a forensic interview at the Southern Nevada Child Advocacy Center, the girl said she didn't want to go back home with her mom and stepdad because she was constantly punished. She explained how her mom would burn her hand on the stove as punishment. The stepdad would also beat her, but not as hard as her mom.
