In a bizarre turn of events, an attempted carjacking in Bethesda, Maryland, was foiled when the would-be thieves couldn't figure out how to drive a stick shift.
The incident unfolded on a Sunday evening when two male suspects approached a man and demanded his car keys. However, their plan quickly went awry when they realized they were unable to operate the man's vehicle, which was equipped with a manual transmission.
Left with no other option, the suspects abandoned their attempt and fled the scene. The victim, who had managed to escape during the commotion, reported hearing a gunshot, though no shell casings were found.
A dashcam video captured the incident, showing at least three individuals exiting a red SUV before one of them enters the target vehicle, believed to be a Porsche. A man inside the car is seen pointing what appears to be a gun.
The incident serves as a reminder that car thieves often target vehicles with automatic transmissions, as they are easier to operate. Drivers who own manual transmission vehicles may have an added layer of security, as not everyone knows how to drive them.
Nevertheless, it's always important to be aware of your surroundings and take precautions against car theft, such as parking in well-lit areas and installing anti-theft devices.
