A British tourist finds himself in police custody in Turkey, accused of fatally stabbing his wife with a screwdriver in their hotel room following a heated argument. The 26-year-old woman's lifeless body was discovered around 12:30 pm local time on Tuesday, November 14, in a hotel located in Istanbul's Fatih Mevlanakapı District.
Hotel staff, alerted by disturbing sounds, stumbled upon the victim lying in a pool of blood, prompting the involvement of medical teams who later pronounced her dead. Examination revealed lacerations on her throat and body, indicating the use of a screwdriver in the crime.
Turkish authorities swiftly initiated an investigation, apprehending the 28-year-old husband attempting to flee in a bloodied white T-shirt. Confessing to the murder, he admitted disposing of the murder weapon in the hotel room's toilet. Subsequently detained, the suspect underwent interrogation at the Homicide Bureau.
According to the suspect, the tragic incident unfolded after the victim allegedly provided him with drugs, leading to a dispute that escalated into a fatal stabbing. He disclosed using medication for 'psychological disorders' in a statement to the police and acknowledged fleeing the scene while attempting to conceal evidence.
Law enforcement tracked down the suspect by contacting the taxi driver he had flagged down. The arrested individual, depicted in Turkish media in handcuffs and with a lowered head, was led away from the Istanbul Police Department.
An ongoing investigation is delving into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The couple had arrived in Turkey on November 11, settling into their hotel on November 14, where the unfortunate discovery of the victim's lifeless body was made.
