Tragic Injustice: Alabama Man, Daniel Terry Williams Allegedly Assaulted and Beaten in Prison Weeks Before Release

An Alabama man's family alleges that he suffered sexual assault and a severe beating, resulting in a coma, at the Staton Correctional Facility in Elmore, Alabama, just two weeks before his scheduled release.

Daniel Terry Williams, 22, was serving a one-year sentence for assault and theft charges as part of a plea agreement. He had been at Staton for about two weeks following a transfer when the alleged incident occurred, leading to his death on the planned release day of Nov. 9.

According to Jefferson County court records and the family, Williams' father, Terry Williams, expressed determination, stating, "Somebody's got to pay for it, and I'm not backing down. It's my son." Williams' stepmother, Taylor Bostic, revealed that a doctor informed the family that Daniel was already in a coma long before receiving medical attention.

The family is outraged, with Bostic expressing anger at how the prison allowed the incident to happen, noting that Daniel was beaten for nearly two days and left unresponsive for an extended period before being discovered.

The family initially received a call about Williams being hospitalized due to a drug overdose, but upon arriving at the hospital, they were shocked to find him covered in bruises and restraint marks.

Terry Williams alleged that Daniel had been tied up and beaten on Oct. 19, and another inmate took him to an officer for help on Oct. 22.

The Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) reported a possible inmate-on-inmate assault on Oct. 22 and stated that Williams was found unresponsive in his dorm, later being transferred to an area hospital.

Despite medical attempts, Williams was unable to be resuscitated and was eventually taken off life support. The ADOC Law Enforcement Services Division is investigating the incident. The family, describing Daniel as a devoted father, vowed to continue fighting for justice.
