Tragic Scene Unfolds as Idaho Dad Fatally Shot Confronting Suspected Car Thief Outside His Home, Say Police.

A father of three met a tragic end when he was fatally shot while confronting a suspect attempting to steal his car outside his Idaho home.

Mi’Quavis Dewayne Taylor, 18, faces serious charges, including first-degree murder, multiple counts of burglary, grand theft, possession of stolen property, and attempted grand theft, in connection with the death of Fred Rodriguez on November 16.

Charged alongside Taylor is 18-year-old Kaden James Thomson, facing similar charges, including first-degree murder, burglary, grand theft, possession of stolen property, and attempted grand theft.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, Twin Falls police responded to a report of a "man being shot" at Rodriguez's home in the early morning hours of November 16. At the scene, officers found Rodriguez, 32, bleeding next to his 2014 Dodge Caravan.

Rodriguez’s wife informed officers that her husband had been shot while confronting someone attempting to steal the Caravan. The affidavit reveals that in the days leading up to the incident, their Dodge Caravan was broken into, and the keys were stolen. To anticipate a return theft, Rodriguez's wife made a Facebook post seeking information from others who had experienced a similar situation.

On the morning of the attack, Rodriguez’s wife noticed a white pickup truck across the street and observed the driver, wearing gloves and a face covering, approach their property. Armed with a baseball bat, Fred Rodriguez confronted the suspect, who then entered the van's driver seat. Gunshots followed, resulting in Rodriguez being shot five times and pronounced dead at the scene.

After the shooting, witnesses reported seeing the suspect fleeing the area in a white truck at high speed. Crime scene investigators discovered seven shell casings inside the van.

Thomson and Taylor were arrested on November 17, and during questioning, Thomson admitted leaving the scene with Taylor driving. Taylor claimed to have conducted extensive research on car burglary, including videos on home lights' significance. He acknowledged that while he didn't expect Thomson to shoot Rodriguez multiple times, he understood the need for self-defense.

The alleged murder weapon was found at a Boise residence. The two teens are accused of multiple car thefts leading up to the tragic incident.

A GoFundMe page has been established to assist with funeral expenses, emphasizing Rodriguez's role as the sole provider for his traditional family and his strong work ethic and family values.

Taylor and Thomson are currently held on bond in Ada County, with pleas yet to be entered.
