Woman, Arieal Smith Sentenced to Decades for Fatally Shooting Sister's Romantic Rival Outside Nightclub in Jealous Rage

In Indiana, a 25-year-old woman named Arieal Smith is set to spend several decades in prison for the 2022 murder of Secoya Williams outside a nightclub. The incident stemmed from Smith's sister, Ebonie Parks, being jealous of the attention Williams received from Parks' ex-boyfriend.

Court records reviewed by Law&Crime reveal that Marion County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey L. Marchal sentenced Smith to 48 years for murder, along with additional charges of felony pointing a firearm and carrying a handgun without a license.

Apart from the murder charge, Smith was found guilty of felony pointing a firearm, resulting in a 47-year sentence for murder and an additional year for pointing a firearm. The sentences are to be served consecutively. Parks, who drove the getaway vehicle, faced charges of assisting a criminal in a murder and received a two-year home detention sentence.

On February 25, 2022, officers responded to a shooting outside Club Kalakutah in Indianapolis. Williams, who had an altercation with Smith inside the club, was shot when she approached Smith's vehicle later in the night. Smith, claiming it was accidental, fired a fatal shot, and Parks drove away from the scene.

The sisters were arrested less than a week later, asserting that the shooting was unintended while attempting a warning shot.

In the aftermath, Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears emphasized the tragic consequences of the defendant's actions, expressing hope that the resolution would bring solace to Williams' family.
