Madalina Cojocari, an 11-year-old girl from Cornelius, North Carolina, has been missing for over a year. She was last seen getting off a school bus in her hometown on November 21, 2022.
Madalina's parents, Diana Cojocari and Christopher Palmiter, did not report her missing to police until weeks later on December 15, 2022. This delay in reporting her disappearance initially hindered the police investigation.
Authorities have followed leads from the Charlotte area to the mountains of western North Carolina, but they have not yet found Madalina.
Cojocari told police she last saw Madalina on November 23, 2022, around 10 p.m. after she and Palmiter got into an argument.
On November 24, 2022, Palmiter drove to his relatives' home in Michigan, and when he returned home on November 26, 2022, he and Cojocari both claimed they did not know where Madalina was.
Madalina's parents were both arrested for failing to report a missing child. Palmiter was released in August after posting bond, but Cojocari remains in custody.
In an August interview with local news outlet WCNC, Madalina's grandmother, Rodica Cojocari, said through a translator that she believes Madalina is alive and has been kidnapped. She also accused Palmiter of trafficking Diana and Madalina for $5 million.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about Madalina's whereabouts to contact the Cornelius Police Department at 704-892-7773.
