A Florida woman's plan to get her children extra Christmas gifts backfired spectacularly, landing her in legal trouble. Shana Anica Hudson, 39, faces charges of falsely reporting a crime after she allegedly hid her children's Christmas presents and claimed they were stolen.
The incident unfolded when Hudson reported a burglary at her home on November 19th. Claiming thieves had taken their Christmas gifts, she sparked a wave of sympathy and support. Local law enforcement, touched by the story, even arranged for donations to provide the family with new presents.
However, detectives soon received a tip suggesting Hudson's story was a fabrication. Investigating further, they discovered the "stolen" gifts stashed away at a family member's residence, exposing Hudson's hoax.
News of the "Grinch-like" plot spread quickly, with the Lee County Sheriff's Office even posting a humorous Facebook video featuring a deputy dressed as the Grinch. Mocking Hudson's attempt to deceive the community, the video includes a playful jab, stating, "Everyone in this county 'hates, double hates, loathes,' a liar."
Sheriff Carmine Marceno condemned Hudson's actions, emphasizing the unacceptability of such behavior, especially during the holiday season. He further stated, "This woman took advantage of the system and is now paying the price for her selfish choices."
Facing a felony charge, Hudson was arrested on December 4th and released on bond the next day. With a court date scheduled after Christmas, she may not be receiving the holiday cheer she initially sought.
