Over a decade after a violent workplace attack in Miami, Florida, the man responsible has finally pleaded guilty. Jose Rojas, 55, admitted to killing his boss, Frances Venezia, and his coworker, Robert James, using office supplies as weapons back in April 2012.
The details of the crime are shocking. Rojas allegedly bound his victims with duct tape and used items like a mop handle and paper cutter to take their lives. Prosecutors believe the motive was embezzlement, as Rojas had stolen over $3,500 using a company credit card just days before the murders.
The brutal attack lasted for hours, with Rojas even forcing Venezia to call her bank and issue him a check. When that failed, he turned to violence, inflicting horrific injuries on both victims.
The evidence presented at trial included bloody office supplies, clothing, and even a chair still stained with blood and hair particles. Jurors also saw graphic photos from the crime scene.
Initially, Rojas considered an insanity defense, claiming he was in a "psychotic state" at the time of the murders. However, he ultimately decided to plead guilty to two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of armed kidnapping, as well as attempted robbery.
This plea comes as a surprise as Rojas faces a potential life sentence. His next hearing is scheduled for December 12th.
This case serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers of workplace violence and the devastating consequences it can have on families and communities.
