Former NYPD Officer, Gina Mestre, Pleads Guilty to Tipping Off Gangster Boyfriend

A former New York police officer has admitted to helping her gang leader boyfriend evade capture for a murder. Gina Mestre, 33, pleaded guilty to one count of aiding a racketeering murder and she faces up to 15 years in prison when she is sentenced on March 21st.

Prosecutors say Mestre used her position as an NYPD officer to provide confidential information about a federal investigation into the Shooting Boys gang to her boyfriend, Andrew "Caballo" Done, who was the gang's leader.

Mestre also warned Done and other gang members about impending police operations and disclosed the identity of a cooperating witness, allowing them to intimidate the witness.

After Done killed a rival gang member in November 2020, Mestre sent him a copy of the security footage and helped him flee the country.

Done was later caught and sentenced to 35 years in prison.

Mestre's actions have been condemned by law enforcement officials, who say she betrayed her oath to protect and serve the people.
