A 6-year-old boy in Portland, Oregon was tragically killed after being attacked by two large dogs on Tuesday morning. The boy was reportedly getting ready for school when he went into the garage of a friend, where the dogs were kept. One of the dogs then attacked the boy, causing fatal injuries.
The woman who owned the dogs, believed to be Great Dane-Mastiff mixes, was injured trying to intervene and stop the attack. She was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The dogs are currently in the custody of Multnomah County Animal Services.
Police responded to the scene just after 7:30 a.m. and found the boy dead. The grandmother of the boy had dropped him off at the friend's house earlier that morning, expecting the friend to take him to school.
Police are still investigating the incident, and no charges have been filed against the dog owner. However, the Portland Police Bureau expressed their condolences to the boy's family and friends.
"This is a heartbreaking tragedy, and our hearts go out to the boy's family and friends," said PPB Public Information Officer Mike Benner. "We understand the shock and grief they are experiencing, and we will continue to support them in any way we can."
This incident highlights the importance of responsible dog ownership and the need for caution, especially around young children.
