High-Speed Pursuit of Father Ends in Loss of His Two 10-Year-Old Boys

In Wisconsin, a routine traffic stop escalated into a tragic high-speed police pursuit resulting in the devastating loss of two 10-year-old boys.

Deputy Inspector Patrick Esser of Waukesha County Sheriff's Department addressed the heart-wrenching incident during a press conference, terming it a deeply sorrowful event shared via the department's Facebook page.

As per Esser's account, officers stopped a vehicle late one Wednesday night, which then attempted to evade capture. The ensuing chase ended tragically as the car overturned, claiming the lives of two of the six passengers, identified as 10-year-old boys. Additionally, a 14-year-old and 6-year-old girl, who were also passengers in the vehicle, were taken to a nearby children’s hospital.

No identities were disclosed by the police, including those of the surviving passengers. Esser mentioned that the driver and a 29-year-old female passenger in the front were in stable condition at a nearby hospital.

While the relationship among the passengers wasn't confirmed officially, outlets, including NBC News, reported that the driver was the father of the deceased boys. PEOPLE reached out to the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department for further information.

Esser provided details during the conference, stating that a deputy had initiated the stop due to observed high speed and the absence of license plates. Subsequently, the driver fled at a high speed, leading to the pursuit and the tragic crash resulting in the minors' deaths.

Sheriff Eric Severson expressed condolences to the families affected, acknowledging the enormity of the tragedy. He assured an examination of the incident from a policy and procedural standpoint to ensure proper execution by the involved deputies.
