Texas Cheerleader Death: Man Arrested and Charged with Capital Murder

A 23-year-old man, Rafael Govea Romero, has been arrested and charged with capital murder in the death of 16-year-old Lizbeth Medina, a cheerleader at Edna High School. Lizbeth's body was found in a bathtub in her home last week by her mother.

Authorities have not disclosed whether Romero knew Lizbeth or revealed her cause of death. Lizbeth's family confirmed that she was supposed to be at a Christmas parade with her cheer squad on the night of her death.

Romero's current legal representation and plea are unclear. He is being held on a $2 million bond.

Edna Police Chief Rick Boone praised his team's effort in pursuing justice for Lizbeth. He noted the small department's dedication, with officers working well beyond their regular shifts.

Lizbeth's aunt, Ana Medina, started a GoFundMe page to support the family during this difficult time. The fundraiser has surpassed its initial goal of $18,000.

Ana expressed her gratitude for the community's support and requested continued assistance in seeking justice for Lizbeth.
