A California man found guilty of a horrifying Tinder-fueled love triangle murder was sentenced to 71 years to life in prison.
Damon Benson, 31, tortured and carved a swastika onto a Jewish woman's back in 2021 to force her to reveal the address of her other lover, 48-year-old Cameron Gabriel. Driven by "jealousy," Benson then barged into Gabriel's home, ambushed him, and shot him dead.
Benson's self-defense claim crumbled under surveillance footage showing him entering Gabriel's home before a burst of gunfire and his panicked escape.
Judge Jeffrey Penney delivered the hefty sentence, stating it was the "only way to ensure he doesn't harm anyone again." Prosecutors and police hailed the sentence as "justice" for the victim and Gabriel's family.
Gabriel, described as "kind, funny, and never harsh," was mourned by his mother, stepfather, and twin sister. The victim, known for his "witty jokes" and "Buddhist beliefs," also received heartfelt tributes. This senseless tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking behind online connections.
