Tragedy in Dallas: Texas Man, Byron Carrillo, Kills Four, Including Infant, Before Turning Gun on Himself
A Texas man, Byron Carrillo, 21, has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after allegedly killing four people in Dallas, including a 1-year-old child. The victims have been identified as Jose Lopez, 50, Karina Lopez, 33, Vanessa De La Cruz, 20, and Logan De La Cruz, 1. A 15-year-old girl was also injured in the shooting.
Carrillo, who was wearing an ankle monitor that he cut off before or after the incident, is believed to have shot the victims before stealing a car and fleeing south. He was located by police near Austin and, after a pursuit, crashed the vehicle and shot himself in the head as officers approached.
The motive for the shooting is unknown, but police believe it was an isolated incident. Carrillo's ankle monitor was ordered as a result of a 2021 aggravated assault charge.
A GoFundMe campaign has been started by Annabel De La Cruz, the daughter of Jose and Karina Lopez and the sister of Vanessa, to help her and her three sisters.
"Suffering the tragic loss of our parents, my sister and nephew, we would greatly appreciate any help," she wrote in the GoFundMe description.
