Tou Ger Xiong, a Minnesota-based comedian and activist known for his infectious humor and dedication to social justice, has tragically passed away in Colombia. The 50-year-old Asian-American was on vacation with family when his life was cut short in a senseless act of violence.
Xiong, beloved for his insightful comedic routines and passionate advocacy for his Hmong heritage, had arrived in MedellĂn on November 29th with plans to celebrate the holidays. He met a woman online and planned to meet her on December 10th. Unfortunately, this meeting turned into a nightmare.
Xiong was kidnapped and attacked by a group of men, who demanded a ransom of $2,000 in cash. He managed to contact a friend in Colombia, expressing fear and desperation. Sadly, before any payment could be made, Xiong was found murdered in the La Corcovado ravine.
Local authorities confirmed that Xiong suffered over a dozen stab wounds and multiple injuries, suggesting a brutal attack. An investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding his death, including the possibility of an attempted escape.
One suspect has already been apprehended, offering a glimmer of hope for justice amidst the immense grief. Xiong's brother, Eh Xiong, shared his struggle to grasp the reality of his brother's death, describing him as someone who could always "knock on the door" and bring laughter and joy.

The Bush Foundation, which awarded Xiong a fellowship in 2019, praised his dedication to building cultural understanding and addressing racial discrimination.
