Church Leader Touches Girl, Claims "Temptation," Faces Extradition in Shocking Abuse Case

A Florida church youth leader is in hot water after allegedly touching a young girl inappropriately. Richard Scott Shaw, 69, faces lewd molestation charges and awaits extradition from Wyoming, where he currently resides. This shocking crime news has sparked outrage and concern about child safety within religious institutions.

According to authorities, Shaw visited Lakeland, Florida, in December 2023. During that time, he allegedly touched a young girl's private parts on two separate occasions. After returning to Wyoming, the girl confided in her mother about the abuse.

The girl's mother bravely confronted Shaw, and he allegedly admitted to the touching, initially claiming it was an accident. However, when pressed for the truth, he reportedly said, "I gave in to temptation" and admitted to being addicted to porn.

Shaw's confession has triggered two separate investigations. The Polk County Sheriff's Office in Florida is working to determine if there are any other victims in the area, while Freemont County authorities in Wyoming are investigating potential abuse in their jurisdiction. Additionally, Polk County deputies discovered that Shaw is affiliated with other local churches in Wyoming, prompting further investigation.

"This man should never be allowed to have access to children again," Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd stated. "We are working with Wyoming law enforcement to determine if this suspect victimized any other children there — we sincerely hope not."

This chilling case highlights the importance of vigilance and open communication regarding child safety, particularly within religious communities. It also underscores the need for thorough background checks and clear policies to protect children from potential abuse
