eBay Execs Target Critics with Spiders & Threats: $3 Million Fine for Brutal Campaign of Corporate Harassment
In a disturbing case of corporate retaliation, eBay has been slapped with a $3 million fine for terrorizing a married couple who dared to criticize the online giant. The company's employees unleashed a shocking campaign of harassment, sending live bugs, creepy gifts, and even stalking them – all because the couple's online newsletter reported on eBay's issues.
Ina and David Steiner, the couple behind the newsletter "EcommerceBytes," faced a nightmare after eBay executives took their criticism personally. Between 2019 and 2020, their home became a scene from a horror movie. Live spiders and cockroaches slithered through the mail, a bloody pig mask mocked them, and a funeral wreath sent chills down their spines.
eBay's then-CEO fueled the fire, calling Ina a "biased troll" who needed "burning down." Their security chief, Jim Baugh, orchestrated the campaign, employing contractors and colleagues to terrorize the Steiners. They even went so far as to stalk the couple, install GPS trackers, and spread lies online to ruin their reputation.
The Steiners, emotionally and financially drained, finally saw justice prevail. Baugh and his accomplices faced prison sentences, and eBay coughed up a hefty fine to settle the criminal charges. However, the scars of the ordeal remain, a stark reminder of how corporate power can turn into chilling intimidation tactics.
