A Georgia father faces horrific charges for the death of his 4-year-old daughter, Treasure McWeay. Shocking details reveal a story of extreme neglect and malnourishment, leaving Treasure with less than an ounce of water in her body at the time of her death.
This tragedy unfolded over months, with Rodney McWeay facing 14 charges including murder, child cruelty, kidnapping, and false imprisonment. The alleged abuse spanned from May 2021 to December 2023, with McWeay even facing a battery charge for family violence in June 2022.
Police reports claim McWeay isolated himself from his family and struggled with ketamine addiction. The neglect wasn't limited to Treasure - two other young boys in the home, ages 3 and 4, also suffered. One of them was autistic.
Authorities intervened due to "unsatisfactory conditions" in McWeay's home, removing the children in June. But within a week, he traveled across state lines to Maryland, stole the children's mother's car, and brought them back to Georgia.
When police checked on the boys at the hospital after Treasure's death, they found them with scratches, bruises, and were underweight. Reports of McWeay's neglect and abuse stretched back to 2021, including an alleged incident where he knocked out one of his son's teeth.
The boys were placed with their aunt, as McWeay had cut off contact with the mother after kidnapping the children.
Although the autopsy report wasn't readily available, medical examiners confirmed Treasure weighed only 25 pounds - half the average weight for a healthy 4-year-old. The report states she had less than an ounce of fluid in her stomach, highlighting the extent of the starvation.
McWeay allegedly confined his children to one room, controlling their every move. Police found only expired food in the home when they responded to Treasure's death, and strangely, no children's clothing. Cameras, some directed at the children's beds, were present throughout the property.
In a police interview, McWeay claimed he provided toys and took care of their needs within the room. He remains detained without bond, with a court hearing scheduled for January 11th.
This heartbreaking case sheds light on the devastating consequences of child neglect and highlights the importance of immediate intervention when red flags arise.
