Hero Husband Sacrifices Himself After Shielding His Son and Receiving a Gunshot in Their Dallas Home Invasion

A young Dallas family's life shattered in an instant when two men broke into their home, leaving a wife grieving and a young son asking heartbreaking questions. Juvenal Antero, a 24-year-old father, bravely shielded his 4-year-old son from gunfire, taking the bullet himself and sacrificing his life for his family.

The tragedy unfolded on a Saturday afternoon in the Pleasant Grove neighborhood. Elizabel Cardenas, Antero's wife, recounted the harrowing experience. While inside their apartment, she heard a knock and opened the door to find two men claiming to need help with a plunger. In a terrifying turn of events, the men forced their way inside, one wielding a gun.

Without hesitation, Antero stepped between the gunman and his young son, taking the bullet meant for his child. Cardenas witnessed the horrifying scene, remembering her husband's words: "They hit me. They hit me. I'm going to die. I don't want to die in here." Despite receiving medical attention, Antero succumbed to his injuries, leaving Cardenas to grapple with the unimaginable loss while pregnant with their second child.

"My son keeps asking me, when is my dad going to be alive again? Things that no child is supposed to witness or supposed to ask," Cardenas shared through tears. "There are no words, nobody's words can comfort me."

The Dallas Police Department is actively investigating the case, urging anyone with information to come forward. This senseless act of violence highlights the importance of community vigilance and reminds us of the heroes who walk among us, even in the face of unimaginable danger.
