Hollywood Stuntwoman Carrie Bernans Fights Back After Brutal NYC Hit-and-Run

Carrie Bernans, a rising star in Hollywood known for her roles in The Color Purple and Black Panther, is facing a tough recovery after a shocking hit-and-run incident in New York City. The 29-year-old actress and stuntwoman was critically injured early Monday morning when a car driven by a fleeing suspect crashed into an outdoor dining area at the Chirp restaurant in Manhattan.

Bernans, a new mom, suffered several broken bones in the crash and is currently in stable condition at the hospital. Thankfully, her young child was not present at the time.

The incident unfolded as a chaotic scene played out in the city. Police were pursuing a 44-year-old man driving a black Mercedes after responding to a report of a physical assault involving him and his 34-year-old female passenger. The driver, disregarding officers' orders to stop, sped off, weaving through traffic, mounting sidewalks, and ultimately crashing into the restaurant, Bernans, and several other pedestrians.

Tragically, Bernans wasn't the only one hurt. Two officers, the passenger in the Mercedes, and four other people were also injured in the mayhem. Thankfully, all are in stable condition and recovering.

The driver, who faces multiple charges, is currently in critical condition himself. Police continue to investigate the incident.

Bernans' mother, Patricia Lee, shared heartbreaking photos on Instagram showing her daughter's battered face, swollen hands, and chipped teeth. Despite the pain and trauma, Lee expressed gratitude for her daughter's resilience and faith: "She has a few broken bones, fractures, & chipped teeth but thanking God that she’s alive... Amidst the chaos, she’s holding onto an immense sense of gratitude for life itself."

This near-tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and the importance of appreciating every moment. Bernans' fans and fellow actors have showered her with messages of support and well wishes as she embarks on her road to recovery.
