Pennsylvania Woman Charged with Murdering Boyfriend's Toddler After Disturbing Web Searches

Aleisia Owens, 20, of New Castle, Pennsylvania, is facing criminal homicide charges in the heartbreaking death of her boyfriend's 18-month-old daughter, Iris Alfera. The child's death in June 2023 was initially attributed to organ failure, but a medical examiner later discovered fatal levels of acetone, a common ingredient in nail polish remover, in her blood, ruling it a homicide.

Investigators uncovered incriminating web searches allegedly conducted by Owens in the months leading up to Iris's death. These searches included phrases like "harmful household products for kids" and "medications causing accidental poisoning in children." Additionally, Owens reportedly searched for information on passing polygraph tests, raising further suspicions.

Prosecutors allege that Owens not only poisoned Iris with acetone but also forced her to ingest 20 water beads, several button-shaped batteries, and even a metal screw. These accusations paint a picture of unimaginable suffering for the innocent child.

New Castle Police Chief Robert Salem expressed the community's grief and outrage: "Iris's death has brought immense pain and anger. Our officers are immensely proud of their work in bringing the person responsible to justice."

Owens is currently facing charges of homicide, attempted homicide, aggravated assault of a child, and endangering the welfare of a child. She is being denied bail, and it's unclear if she has secured legal representation. Meanwhile, a GoFundMe campaign for Iris's family has raised over $17,000 to help them cope with this unimaginable tragedy.
