Texas Judge's Son Arrested in Shocking Double Homicide

A quiet Texas town was rocked by a double homicide on Monday night, leaving a retired judge and his wife dead, and their son facing capital murder charges.

74-year-old Burt Carnes, a respected former district judge, and his wife Susan were found deceased inside their home near Georgetown, Texas. According to authorities, their 45-year-old son, Seth Carnes, confessed to the shootings upon arrival of deputies responding to a 911 call.

The details surrounding the incident remain unclear, with preliminary investigations suggesting a family dispute escalated into violence. The sheriff's office has assured the public there is no further threat to safety, but the investigation is ongoing.

Seth Carnes is currently being held without bond, and it's unknown at this time if he has legal representation. The community, particularly affected by Judge Carnes' long-standing service, is reeling from the shock and grief.

"This deeply distressing incident has left everyone heartbroken," said Commander John Foster of the Williamson County Sheriff's Office. "Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends affected by this tragedy."

Judge Carnes, known for his dedication to justice and fairness, served 24 years on the bench before retiring in 2013. He came from a family steeped in law enforcement, with his father having been an FBI agent and other relatives holding positions like Texas Ranger, Border Patrol agent, and sheriff.

"Judge Carnes was an exemplary judge," said Texas representative John Carter. "He was hardworking, fair, and a true pillar of the legal community."

As the investigation continues, the community grapples with the loss of a respected figure and the pain of a family torn apart by tragedy.
