Tragedy Strikes Las Vegas Family as Father, Jerry Lopez is Gunned Down in Carjacking Spree

A Las Vegas family is shattered after a tragic carjacking spree last Wednesday claimed the life of Jerry Lopez, a 39-year-old husband and father of seven. The alleged perpetrator, Justin Davidson, 36, remains deceased after a final confrontation with police.

The nightmare began early Wednesday morning near Placid St. and Maulding Ave., where Davidson allegedly shot his own mother during a domestic dispute. He then fled the scene, firing at his fleeing father and commandeering a police vehicle.

A desperate chase ensued, culminating in a series of carjackings throughout the southwest valley. At each stop, Davidson terrorized innocent bystanders, stealing vehicles and ultimately shooting Lopez, who had pulled over upon seeing police activity.

"Jerry was the heart of our family," wrote his wife Karen on a GoFundMe page, which has raised nearly $400,000 to support their devastated family. "He was supposed to grow old with me and raise our kids together."

Tragically, six of the Lopez children were adopted from foster care, their ages ranging from just 11 years old to their teenage years. Jerry, a driver for a medical company, recently received a promotion and had showered his children with Christmas gifts.

Adding to the horror, police found evidence suggesting Davidson intended a violent confrontation. A notebook with a potential ambush diagram was discovered, along with tactical gear and militaristic documents. Two linked residences contained further concerning materials.

"There are no words to describe the pain of losing Jerry," Karen shared through Fox affiliate KVVU. "He was taken from us so senselessly, and our children are left without their father."

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMP) continues their investigation, with the Critical Incident Review Team thoroughly examining the events. While answers emerge, a family and community grapple with unimaginable loss.A Las Vegas family is shattered after a tragic carjacking spree last Wednesday claimed the life of Jerry Lopez, a 39-year-old husband and father of seven.
