Man from Minnesota Arrested for Drugs, Linked to Death of L.A. Model Maleesa Mooney Who Was Found Dead inside a Fridge in Her Apartment

The police in Los Angeles have found out who they think might be responsible for the death of Maleesa Marie Mooney, a model from L.A. who was discovered dead in her apartment in September, stuffed inside her fridge.

The cops say they've identified Magnus Daniel Humphrey, a 41-year-old man from Hopkins, Minn., as a suspect in Mooney’s death. They arrested him at his house on a separate, unrelated federal warrant for drug charges. They didn't say why they think he's connected to the murder.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office has filed murder charges against Humphrey. He agreed to be taken to Los Angeles to face the charges for Mooney’s death.

The police had gone to check on Mooney at her apartment on Sept. 12, 2023, around 3:54 p.m. When they got there and looked around, they found the 31-year-old dead inside.

Mooney’s autopsy report, done by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, showed that she was killed by violence. The report said she was beaten and tied up before being put into her fridge.

It also said she had been hit hard on parts of her body and had cocaine and alcohol in her system.

The medical examiner said the injuries she had weren't usually deadly by themselves. But because of how she was found, they thought she had been in a violent fight before she died.

They also weren't sure if the drugs or alcohol had anything to do with her death.

Mooney was last seen on camera at her apartment on Sept. 6, six days before her mom asked the police to check on her. Her sister Jourdin Pauline said Mooney had been two months pregnant before she died.

She said going to Mooney's apartment after the police check was really scary. "Different parts of the carpet were torn up and the fridge was missing. Whatever happened that night was really scary and traumatic. I know she was so scared. I just hate to think about it.”
