Stepson Faces Second-Degree Murder Charges After Shooting His Stepfather in Arizona Road Rage Tragedy

A 20-year-old man from Arizona finds himself in police custody following a tragic and fatal altercation involving his 32-year-old stepfather. The incident, sparked by road rage, resulted in the death of Jose Angel Ruiz Leyva, and Jorge Adrian Ramirez now faces serious charges including second-degree murder and unlawfully discharging a firearm.

On the evening of February 3rd, the Phoenix Police Department received reports of a shooting near the 4000 block of West Hadley Street, close to 40th Avenue. Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered Leyva with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention and transportation to Banner University Medical Center, Leyva tragically succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival at the hospital.

Taking over the investigation, detectives secured surveillance footage from the area surrounding the crime scene. This footage revealed a vehicle believed to be connected to the incident, driven by Ramirez. With the assistance of this footage and cooperation from Ramirez's mother, authorities were swiftly able to identify Ramirez as the prime suspect in the case.

Ramirez was apprehended without incident after detectives located him. During subsequent interviews with law enforcement, Ramirez confessed to the shooting. He recounted a heated argument with his stepfather prior to the incident, during which Leyva allegedly engaged in abusive behavior towards Ramirez's mother. This, Ramirez claims, fueled his actions on that fateful evening.

The ongoing investigation underscores the importance of any additional information or witnesses coming forward. As of now, Ramirez remains in custody at the Maricopa County Jail, held on a $1 million bond, awaiting further legal proceedings.
