A Texas man, James Spencer III (22), faces murder charges after allegedly posing as a minor online to lure and kill a registered sex offender, Sean Connery Showers (37), in May 2023.
Houston Police claim Spencer admitted to the shooting, which occurred after Showers approached a vehicle early on May 29th. Authorities later identified and arrested Spencer.
According to Click 2 Houston and ABC 13, Spencer allegedly used the pretense of underage sex to lure Showers, believing him to be a repeat offender.
Showers pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography in 2009 and faced imprisonment and registration requirements.
Prosecutor Rehaman Merchant emphasized at a press conference, "Regardless of the victim's actions, we have laws. No one gets to be judge, jury, and executioner."
Spencer's legal representation and plea status remain unclear. This crime news story raises questions about gun violence, vigilantism, and the role of crime lawyers in such cases.
