A Volusia County jury convicted Michael D. Williams (48) on Friday of two counts of second-degree murder. The charges stem from the shooting deaths of his ex-wife, Marsha Ebanks-Williams (48), and her adult son, Robert Adams (28), in July 2022.
Williams claimed self-defense during the trial, but prosecutors argued his injuries were minor and the victims were unarmed.
According to a press release, Williams sustained a scratch on his lip, an abrasion on his knee, and light scratches on his torso. Investigators also found no weapons on Ebanks-Williams or Adams.
The shooting reportedly occurred following a prolonged argument between Williams and his ex-wife regarding electricity usage at their former residence.
Court documents and press conferences detailed a "toxic" relationship marked by frequent arguments. The couple had been married for ten years and divorced in June 2022.

Though residing separately, Williams remained in the home until its sale. Law enforcement responded to the residence on East Parkway in DeLand five times in 2022 for domestic disturbances, however, none resulted in arrests.
Prosecutors allege the argument escalated after several days, culminating in the shooting. However, inconsistencies emerged in Williams' account.
Authorities claim he initially told detectives a 911 dispatcher advised him not to re-enter the home and assist the victims.
Investigators reviewed the call recording, revealing the dispatcher inquired if he was willing to render aid, which Williams declined.
Sentencing for Williams is forthcoming.
