Florida Man,Timothy A. Upthegrove, Gets Life in Prison for Wife's Gruesome Murder

A 59-year-old man from Florida has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his wife. He brutally beat and stabbed the 51-year-old woman inside their home, hid her body in the woods, and tried to cover up his crime. He later claimed that his wife was "in heaven."

Judge Steven Henderson of the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Court handed down the sentence to Timothy A. Upthegrove for the 2017 murder of Lori Upthegrove.

Before his sentencing, a jury in Brevard County found Timothy Upthegrove guilty of first-degree premeditated murder, tampering with evidence, and failure to report a death after nine hours of deliberation.

According to documents from the court, Lori Upthegrove was reported missing by her family and friends on December 19, 2017. Her car was discovered the next day at a Days Inn motel, with blood stains visible on various parts of the vehicle. Police found significant blood evidence inside the car.

Timothy Upthegrove was staying at the same motel, with injuries on his hands, arms, and knees. Bloody women's clothing and towels were found in a dumpster on the property.

Police found evidence of a violent crime in the couple's garage, including blood spatter and attempts to clean it up. Items like an axe and a hammer, both stained with blood, were discovered.

During police questioning, Timothy Upthegrove confessed to the murder, stating that things "got out of control" during an argument with Lori. He admitted to killing her after coming home from using drugs and then hiding her body in a wooded area.

Records showed a history of domestic violence between the couple, including a prior incident where Timothy bit Lori's face.
