Lancaster County Local Woman Murdered in her home, Suspect Arrested


A tragic incident occurred last week in Lancaster County. 

A woman, 65-year-old Harriet Mahaffey, was discovered deceased inside her residence. Authorities believe she was shot after a break-in.

Family members, concerned about the lack of contact with Ms. Mahaffey, visited her home and found her unresponsive. 

Upon investigation, law enforcement determined Ms. Mahaffey had been shot the previous day. 

Additionally, her vehicle, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, was missing.

Through investigation and evidence gathered at the scene, authorities identified a suspect, 23-year-old Lloyd Caldwell Jr.

He was apprehended in Chester County and faces charges including murder, burglary, grand larceny exceeding $20,000, and possession of a firearm during a violent crime. 

He is currently incarcerated without bond awaiting trial.

Mr. Caldwell reportedly revealed the location of Ms. Mahaffey's vehicle, which was recovered near his arrest location.  

Multiple agencies, including South Carolina state investigators, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, and the FBI, collaborated in this investigation.
