Massachusetts Authorities Searching for Dejan Belnavis, a Suspect in a Double Homicide


A search is underway in Worcester, Massachusetts, following the tragic deaths of Chastity Nuñez (25) and her 11-year-old daughter Zella. Both victims were found shot to death in their car on Tuesday.

Authorities are actively seeking Dejan Belnavis (27) in connection with the murders. The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to his capture.  He is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.

A second suspect, Karel Mangual (28), has been arrested and charged with Armed Assault to Murder and Carrying a Firearm without a License. He also had a previous warrant for his arrest.

Nuñez, a member of the Connecticut Army National Guard, was described by her colleagues as an intelligent, dedicated soldier with a bright future.  She received multiple awards for her service, including the National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the Army Achievement Medal.

Zella, a student at a local Worcester school, was remembered as a high-achieving student with a positive reputation among her classmates and teachers.

Statement from the National Guard:

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Sergeant Nuñez and her daughter Zella," said National Guard spokesperson Maj. David Pytlik.  "Sergeant Nuñez was a valued member of our unit, and her absence will be deeply felt. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and fellow soldiers during this difficult time."

Statement from Worcester Public Schools:

"Zella was a bright and well-liked student who will be dearly missed by her teachers and classmates. Our school community is providing support services to those affected by this tragedy."

The investigation is ongoing.
