Missouri Man Charged with Killing Officer and Court Worker During Eviction

A man from Missouri is facing serious charges for allegedly shooting and killing a police officer and a court worker, while also injuring two other people. This happened while they were trying to evict him from his home.

The man, Larry Acree, is accused of two murders, one assault on a police officer, and three other charges related to using a gun during a crime. This information was released by a local official on Friday.

Four people in total were shot on the last day of February, including three police officers and a worker from the court. The police department confirmed this information to news outlets.

The people who died were identified as Officer Cody Allen, who was 35 years old, and court worker Drexel Mack, who was 42 years old.

According to legal documents reviewed by news sources, Mr. Mack and two other people went to Mr. Acree's house on the last day of February to evict him because he hadn't paid taxes and lost ownership of the house. They unlocked the driveway and knocked on the door, announcing who they were.

Since nobody answered, a worker hired to take care of the property used a tool to open the front door. Then, Mr. Mack and another person went inside, but someone started shooting at them. Mr. Mack was hit by the gunfire and fell to the ground right inside the house, according to the documents.

The other person who went inside with Mr. Mack went to get help, and the police arrived at the scene. Three officers, including Officer Allen, went inside the house to find Mr. Mack when more gunshots happened.

Sadly, both Mr. Mack and Officer Allen died at the hospital. The two other police officers who were shot are expected to be okay.

More police officers arrived, and they exchanged gunfire with the suspect, Mr. Acree, before taking him into custody.

Based on the documents, Mr. Mack had put a notice on Mr. Acree's property a few days before, telling him he had to leave. This notice was a result of a legal order to evict him, which had been issued earlier in February.

News outlets reported that the process to evict Mr. Acree started almost a year ago.

An official expressed sadness about the situation and wished things could have been different.

A fundraising website has been set up to help Mr. Mack's family, and the police department is selling shirts to support Officer Allen's family.

Mr. Acree is currently in jail and needs to pay a large amount of money to be released before his trial. There is no information yet about whether he has denied or admitted guilt or if he has a lawyer.
