Tragedy struck New Mexico early Friday morning when State Police Officer Justin Hare was shot and killed near Tucumcari while on duty.
Authorities have identified and issued an arrest warrant for the suspect, 32-year-old Jaremy Smith from Marion. Smith is considered armed and dangerous, and a search is currently underway.
The shooting happened around 5:30 am on Interstate 40 (I-40).
Police believe Jaremy Smith is responsible for Officer Hare's death.
They last saw Smith on the I-40 Frontage Road between Montoya and Newkirk, near mile marker 304.

He was described as wearing blue jeans, a tan Carhartt jacket, and either a red or brown hoodie.

Jaremy Smith faces serious charges, including murder, armed robbery, shooting a gun from a vehicle, tampering with evidence, being a felon in possession of a firearm, stealing a car, and damaging property.
