Jury Convicts Michelle Troconis of Helping Boyfriend Kill Estranged Wife, Jennifer Dulos

A jury in Connecticut found Michelle Troconis, 49, guilty of helping her boyfriend, Fotis Dulos, plan and hide the murder of his estranged wife, Jennifer Dulos, during a difficult divorce. Prosecutors claimed Troconis helped create a fake alibi and get rid of evidence.

The jury found Michelle Troconis guilty of all charges, including helping to plan the murder, helping to hide evidence, and hindering the investigation. This decision came after an 8-week trial and 12 hours of jury deliberation.

Troconis seemed upset after the verdict, crying and putting her face in her hands while her lawyer offered comfort. Sentencing is scheduled for May 31st, and Troconis could face up to 50 years in prison.

The judge allowed Michelle Troconis to remain on house arrest with electronic monitoring instead of immediate jail time, considering she has a teenage daughter to care for. However, her passport has already been taken away.

Both sides agree that the main suspect, Fotis Dulos, will never face trial due to his suicide in 2020 while awaiting trial. Jennifer's body has also not been found.

Prosecutors believe Jennifer was murdered based on evidence, including blood found in her garage and on cars, a discarded bloody shirt and bra, and suspicious materials like zip ties and duct tape.

They say Fotis Dulos, a construction company owner, borrowed an employee's car to drive near Jennifer's home, then biked the rest of the way to attack her. Evidence suggests she was struck multiple times, not falling and hitting her head as some might initially think.

Prosecutors also believe Fotis left his phone behind to avoid tracking and possibly for Michelle Troconis to use to create an alibi. They point out she answered his phone while he was out and unlocked it multiple times.

Additionally, surveillance footage showed smoke coming from Fotis' house that day, which authorities believe was Michelle Troconis burning evidence. Investigators believe they had planned an alibi together, but Troconis' story changed over time.

For example, Michelle Troconis didn't mention answering Fotis' phone in her first police interviews. The prosecution argues she lied and hid crucial information.

The defense lawyer argued Troconis is innocent and blames Fotis and any potential accomplices for the crime. He claims Troconis didn't know Fotis planned to harm Jennifer or believe him capable of such an act. He says any secrets Fotis had died with him when he took his own life.
