Justin Kidwell, a 20-year-old man from Texas, faces murder charges after authorities say he played video games while his baby daughter drowned in the bathtub.
The tragic incident occurred in May 2023, when police responded to a distress call at a Burkburnett home. They found an 8-month-old girl unresponsive in the bathtub.
During a year-long investigation, it was discovered that Kidwell allegedly left the child unattended in the bathtub with the water running, while he was busy playing video games.

Kidwell, who was the only adult at home, admitted to placing the child in the bathtub and leaving her alone to talk to a friend on Discord. He claimed to have left her for only a short time, but the water overflowed, flooding the bathroom and dampening the rugs.
This isn't Kidwell's first offense involving child safety. In 2022, he pleaded guilty to child endangerment related to allowing a minor access to controlled substances.
Currently held on a $500,000 bond for the murder charge, Kidwell's plea information and legal representation were not immediately available.
