Man Charged in Fatal Stabbing of Wife in Presence of Children

A man is facing serious charges after confessing to the police that he had stabbed his wife, leading to a tragic loss of life in Illinois.

Maricela Simon Franco, just 26 years old, was fatally attacked in her home in Carol Stream, Illinois.

The authorities described the attack as brutal, with her suffering multiple stab wounds, including nearly being decapitated.

The suspect, Baltazar Perez-Estrada, aged 33, surrendered himself to the Carol Stream Police Department the following day and admitted to the crime.

He was immediately taken into custody as the investigation commenced.

According to investigators, the incident stemmed from a verbal argument between the couple that escalated into physical violence.

Perez-Estrada allegedly inflicted numerous stab wounds on Franco, resulting in her untimely death.

Shockingly, the couple's two young children were present during the altercation, compounding the tragedy.

In the aftermath of this horrific event, the community has rallied to support Franco's family, particularly her children, who had recently reunited with their mother in the United States.

Chief of Police Don Cummings lamented the loss, emphasizing the impact on the children who have been deprived of their mother's love and care.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin condemned the senseless violence that claimed Maricela’s life, emphasizing the urgent need to address domestic violence in society.

Perez-Estrada's journey to the United States from Mexico without proper documentation adds another layer of complexity to the case.

He faces charges of first-degree murder, in addition to legal consequences related to his immigration status.

Perez-Estrada awaits his arraignment and has been denied pre-trial release due to the severity of the charges against him.

While court proceedings progress, the community mourns the loss of Maricela Simon Franco and stands in solidarity against domestic violence.
